Today is a meaningful day of marking a historic milestone for the development of the DPRK-Russia relations in the new century.

On July 19, 2000, Chairman Kim Jong Il met with Comrade Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, President of the Russian Federation, who visited our country for the first time.

They had an open-minded exchange of views on the issue of developing bilateral relations as well as on international issues of mutual concerns, and adopted the historic DPRK-Russia Joint Declaration.

In the Joint Declaration, the top leaders of the two countries expressed their will to further expand and develop cooperation in various fields including politics, the economy and culture between the DPRK and the Russian Federation and to further strengthen mutual cooperation to ensure global peace and security and achieve prosperity.

The summit between the two top leaders held for the first time at the turn of the new millennium and the historic DPRK-Russia Joint Declaration were epoch-making events which demonstrated before the world that the DPRK-Russia friendly relations with long-standing history and tradition will invariably follow the road of development in the new century as well.

Chairman Kim Jong Il paid an official visit to Russia in August 2001, a year after the adoption of the DPRK-Russia Joint Declaration, and signed the DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration which provided another powerful driving force for the development of the DPRK-Russia friendly relations.

Thereafter he made two visits to the Russian Federation, further deepening the friendly feelings and fraternal friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

Thanks to the immortal contributions of Chairman Kim Jong Il , the ties and tradition of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Russia have grown stronger standing the test of time.

They are now being strengthened at an unprecedented level under the special attention of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , President of the State Affairs of the DPRK and President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Thanks to the DPRK-Russia summits and agreements held and signed in Vladivostok, Vostochny Spaceport and Pyongyang in April 2019, September 2023 and on June 19, 2024 respectively, the DPRK-Russia relations have reached a new high level of comprehensive and strategic partnership.

It is the common aspirations and will of the peoples of the two countries to ensure the continuity of the historic tradition of fighting the common enemy side by side and cooperate in the struggle to build a just and peaceful world free from domination, subordination, hegemony and high-handedness while strengthening mutual support and strategic cooperation in this course.

The centuries-old DPRK-Russia friendship, cooperation, comradeship and militant unity will be carried forward as ever and will continuously develop in conformity with the aspirations and desire of the peoples of the two countries.
