U.S. Policy of Hegemony Censured by Russian Foreign Minister

During his recent speech at the meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Russian foreign minister Lavrov blamed the U.S. policy of hegemony for disturbing the strategic stability - the very basis of international legal order - and undermining the sound system of world politics centered on the UN.

He revealed that the U.S., insisting on its peculiar status from long ago, does not recognize the principle of sovereign equality of states, the core of the UN Charter, and demands its allies to be in absolute obedience to it even though it means harming their national interests.

He also disclosed that the substance of “rules-based order”, which constitutes a direct threat to multipolar world and international peace, is encapsulated in the phrase “Rule, America!”.

He continued to condemn the western group saying that it, being dictated by the White House, is making a distorted and selective interpretation of the UN Charter, the most important component of international law, and UNSC resolutions, and is hindering international cooperation and the work to build a righteous world, placing the “rules” of the U.S. above the UN Charter.

In conclusion, he called upon all UN member states to make concerted efforts to write the history of genuine multilateralism on the basis of the UN Charter.
