Song Che Son, an instructor of the guitar group at the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace, had a special attachment to the arts since her childhood.
Hailing from Haeju, South Hwanghae Province, Song happened to see on TV an art performance given by schoolchildren on a Sunday in her primary school days.
Watching young students skillfully playing guitars, she imitated their movements unconsciously, singing songs together with them.
She suddenly wondered why she could not be like them.
The next day she came to see the instructor of her school’s music group.
This is how Song began to learn guitar at the group.
Young as she was, she acquired various playing techniques in a short span of time, and reached the top three in several national instrumental solo contests during her primary school days.
Later, she was enrolled at the then Pyongyang University of Music and Dance, during which she always excelled herself in the university-wide ability assessment.
After graduating from the university with top honour, she started her career as an instructor at the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace. She made up her mind to train many promising musicians.
She often met authoritative educators and musicians to share new teaching methods and playing techniques.
She correctly applied agogics suited to the mood of relevant works so as to maximize the effect of musical performance.
One of her group members came first in the individual event at the 59th national schoolchildren’s art festival held in April.
Her disciples are now playing their part at different central art troupes.
While working as an instructor for more than ten years, Song has written over 10 essays and created new teaching methods to win the title of October 8 Model Teacher.
