The chief of the political bureau of the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas who was staying in Tehran for participation in the presidential swearing-in ceremony of the new Iranian president was assassinated on July 31. This incident sparked the surge of condemnation of the Israeli terrorism and the U.S. for patronizing it.
In a phone call with Foreign Minister of Egypt on August 18, Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister said that this incident warrants Iran’s legitimate right to counter-offensive against Israel. He also said that the strong support of U.S. for Israel’s war in Gaza clearly proves Washington is implicated in the crimes against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
On August 19, deputy Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) commented that Iran will counter Israeli terrorism at an appropriate time and place in proper manner, and that the Israeli government which infringed upon territorial integrity of Iran will face a harsher punishment than before.
On August 20, the spokesperson for the Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said that today Israel should admit their failure, and stressed that Iran is preparing a retaliatory operation plan in consideration of all possible situations in the future and they will strike the targets the enemies couldn’t predict according to their correct and calculated determination.
Prior to this, the Leader of the Iran Islamic Revolution stated that it is Iran’s duty to seek blood vengeance for Hamas’ political leader who was assassinated on the territory of Islamic Republic of Iran and will launch a major attack reprisal against Israel. And the Iranian President affirmed that they will not shy away from protecting its territorial integrity, dignity, honor, and authority of the Islamic Republic and make Israel, the terrorist and invader, rue their cowardly and despicable behavior.
Meanwhile, the major Iranian media including IRNA and ISNA condemned the U.S. in the strongest terms, saying that it is the only country that is patronizing Israel’s massacre in Gaza Strip and supplying Israel with a large number of lethal weapons.
