The Japanese imperialists had enforced a heinous policy to obliterate the Korean nation during their military rule early in the last century.
An example is that they drove iron posts into major mountain ranges of Korea.
Korea is a mountainous country. From olden times the Korean people had adored mountains, and observed their landforms and terrains to find some principles and applied them to their life.
After occupying Korea, the Japanese imperialists committed an unheard-of outrage of driving iron posts into major mountains and geographical points of Korea, likening them to a living human body and believing the posts would make the Korean land and people fall ill and incur misfortunes.
The iron posts on mountains in Kaesong bear witness to such crimes. They were found on the summit of Mt Songak and in Samgo-ri and other places of the city.
Three iron posts were found inside the back of a rock called Ryongma in Samgo-ri. Another three were found in a rock of the adjoining mountain range.
The three iron posts were rammed triangularly. Boiling sulfur was poured into the bottom of the posts before cementing them in order to prevent Koreans from pulling them out.
Besides, the bisected hip of a mountain behind a village in Chaeryon-ri, Phanmun District, still remains as a clear proof of the Japanese crimes.
Huge rocks including one weighing about 10 tons were found in different parts of the mountain ridge. According to testimonies, the Japs put them there to suppress the spirit of the mountain and prevent the birth of a general.
They perpetrated such a despicable act in an attempt to trample down the spirit of the Korean people and frustrate their struggle for national liberation. In other words, they tried to depress the Korean people who were anxiously waiting for a great man to liberate them from the yoke of the Japanese colonial rule and thus obliterate the national soul.
Many years have passed since then, but the crimes can never be erased nor covered.
The Korean people still remember the atrocious crimes committed by the sworn enemy and are determined to make them pay dearly for their wrongdoings.
