Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering has recently made achievements in the research to remodel a conventional silk loom into an air-injection type.
While working on a project for a new, high-performance loom, a research team of the university strived to remodel the shuttle, gripper and other conventional weaving machines that are now in use at textile mills into air injection types so as to increase production.
Finally they succeeded in changing the existing mode of picking weft by means of spindle and gripper into an air injection mode. The new mode needs spindles, shuttle needle rods, pickers, grippers and other components no longer and helps raise the rate of actual output of products and the productivity and operation of looms.
Yu Myong Gun, section chief at the machine design institute of the university, says that the air injection loom has a wide application and high economic effect as it can produce a variety of quality cloths.
The new model was highly appreciated at the 17th national machine design festival held last year and has been applied to the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill, the Nyongbyon Silk Mill and other units, bringing about good results.
