The Workers’ Party of Korea was founded on October 10, Juche 34 (1945) by Comrade Kim Il Sung (April 15, 1912-July 8, 1994).

In the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle (1925-1945), he formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union, Society for Rallying Comrades as the first party organization and the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army Party Committee, thereby laying organizational and ideological foundations for party founding. After the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945, he pushed ahead with the preparations for founding the party prior to the building of the state and armed forces.

In his speech delivered to military and political cadres on August 20, Juche 34 (1945),

he put forward the policy of founding a unified party with the revolutionaries who had been trained in the anti-Japanese revolutionary war as the core and involving those who had engaged in revolution at home and abroad. In a talk with the military and political cadres and the senior officials of the Wonsan City Communist Party organizations on September 19 that year, he stressed the need to found the Party in such a way as to set up Party organizations in different regions first and, on the basis of it, organize its central leadership organ.

He personally went to various areas to learn about the situation of local Party organizations and give detailed guidance to their activities.

He said to a senior official of the South Phyongan Provincial Party Committee: No task is more pressing for us than to found the Party; we should make all efforts to step up the preparations for founding it; we should organize its cells in factories, enterprises, rural areas and fishing villages in the province and strengthen them organizationally and ideologically.

Thanks to his wise leadership and the energetic activities of the political operatives dispatched by him, Party organizations at all levels, from ri to the then sub-county, county, city and province, as well as factories and enterprises, were built up in a short span of time.

The work to set up the central leadership organ of the Party was also pushed forward.

The historic inaugural congress was held on October 10, Juche 34 (1945), at which the founding of the Juche-type revolutionary Party was solemnly declared.

With the completion of the cause of founding the Party, the Korean people had a powerful political general staff capable of guiding the Korean revolution along the straight road of victory, and they could brave hardships and trials without making a single mistake or deviation with regard to their lines throughout the whole course of the revolution.

Today the Korean people are dynamically waging the struggle to build a powerful socialist country under the guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , holding him at the helm of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
