Various regions in the DPRK have strengthened building materials production bases using the local resources to satisfy their demands for building materials by their own efforts.
Last year Unsan County, North Phyongan Province, set an example in raising the utility rate of locally-produced building materials in the course of building houses in the Tapsang Farm.
The county built a brick production base relying on the raw materials abundant in the region and used the bricks produced there in building partition walls, banisters and fences. And it paved the sidewalks in the villages with locally available stones.
It also produced light-burned magnesia plywood by its own efforts and manufactured various kinds of fittings and furniture with it. In addition, it established a line of producing coloured mortar for finishing the exterior walls of houses.
As a result, it could save a lot of cement, timber and other kinds of building materials, at the same time as improving the speed and quality of construction work.
Having remarkably increased light-burned magnesia production capacity, Tanchon, South Hamgyong Province, is now establishing a wall-paper production line. Meanwhile, Jongphyong County of the province is making effective use of stones found in the region and producing furniture board and sanitary ware by its own efforts.
Myongchon, North Hamgyong Province, has built a serpentine dressing base, at which it turns out various kinds of products.
Substantial achievements are being made also in ensuring the diversity of kind, shape and colour of building materials.
The provincial building-materials exhibition-2023 was held last year on the theme of “Usher in a new era of rural development by means of our building materials.” Displayed at the exhibition were over 280 kinds of building materials of 16 indices like tiles, plastic building materials, wall paper and metal fittings produced in provinces, arousing a great response among the visitors.
Now various regions are achieving continuous progress in improving quality, increasing production and lowering cost by directing efforts to consolidating their own technical forces and modernizing production lines.
