Since 1989, the DPRK has awarded Model Agricultural Worker Honour Prize to the exemplary agricultural workers in recognition of their long service in support of the country.
With the number of the winners growing every year, more than 190 persons have been awarded the title this year.
Among the winners are a woman at the Migok Farm in Sariwon of North Hwanghae Province and a man at the Hyongsan Vegetable Farm in Hyongjesan District of Pyongyang. His workteam has overfulfilled its production plan every year. He has been instrumental in this effort.
The prize winners include agricultural scientists.
Rim Chun Ok, a researcher at the Agrochemistry Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science, developed a highly efficient seed coating material Phungnyonmo 1 and introduced it into a wide area of the country. Paek Ryon Hwa, a researcher at the Agrobiology Institute under the same academy, made achievements in the research to raise the resistance of beans and potatoes to harmful insects by bioengineering methods.
Several other researchers of the academy were also awarded the prize this year.
A farmer at the township farm of Anak County of South Hwanghae Province said that he had never dreamed that he would be awarded the prize for his duty-bound efforts and that he would make redoubled efforts for more grain production in the future.
The members at Workteam No. 2 of the Sonam Industrial Crop Farm under the South Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee said that it was their honour and pride that their leader won the title, adding that they would work harder.
