The 2024 national academic contest of Taekwon-Do colleges took place at the Taekwon-Do Palace and the Taekwon-Do Holy House.
It was divided into events for students and teachers.
The students’ event was the high point of the contest.
It was conducted in theory and practice, and in the latter the contestants were to compete in Taekwon-Do.
“From the beginning the competition was fierce with 20 gold medals up for grabs in pattern and sparring events. Our college team won 13 gold medals to top the total rankings,” said Jo Tae Sok, a teacher at Pyongyang Municipal Taekwon-Do College.
The contestants from the college won both the men’s and women’s team pattern and sparring events, and they also proved successful in the individual events.
The standout was the men’s and women’s team pattern.
The contestants demonstrated a high level of synchronization, accuracy and ensemble in movements.
Kim Ki Sop, head of a department of the college, attributed the success to the training of talents conducive to the development of the orthodox martial art by developing and introducing effective and superior teaching methods.
The college has adopted valuable research results such as a program for measuring and evaluating the kinetic psychology of Taekwon-Do practitioners, improving the scientific and IT level of the theoretical and practical education.
In an effort to steadily improve the educational work, it has regularly held demonstration lectures and discussions to help teachers share excellent teaching experiences and achievements.
As a result, an increasing number of students are holding Taekwon-Do degrees and grades through the biannual examinations conducted by the college in spring and autumn.
“Only when our teachers redouble efforts, can we train talents competent both in theory and practice required by the present times and make today’s competition results followed by more successes in the future,” said Kim Un Rae, a teacher at the college who won a gold medal at an international competition.
