The researchers at the paper engineering institute under the State Academy of Sciences do their part in hastening the new era of regional rejuvenation by dint of science.
They developed advanced paper-making technology which is cost-effective, intensive and environment-friendly and introduced it into the Kimhwa County Paper Mill in Kangwon Province.
As the technology helps produce paper of different grades with wood, waste paper and fallen leaves while using no chemicals, it attracts the attention of different regions.
The focal point in the production line based on the technology is a multi-purpose machine designed to make paper of various kinds.
This paper machine requires much less production space, accessory equipment, labour and water consumption.
The waste water is filtered and recycled and the waste fibre is separated and used to produce cardboard or paper containers.
The Kimhwa County Paper Mill produces tens of kinds of high-quality products such as writing paper, toilet paper, wallpaper and floor lining paper with locally available raw materials and satisfies the local demand for them.
Based on the experience gained in building the Kimhwa County Paper Mill, the institute concentrates all its efforts on the construction of other paper mills to be built in every province.
"A groundbreaking ceremony of the Unsan Paper Mill took place in South Phyongan Province on February 28. Our institute has an important role to play in its construction project,” said Ri Yong Il, director of the institute.
According to him, the institute plans to introduce an advanced technology to the paper mill to produce a variety of quality paper in a single production line without affecting the environment. Timber, waste wood and others can be used as raw materials.
In addition, the institute developed tens of kinds of functional paper including paper for separating air from oil, release paper for synthetic leather production and paper for heat-resistant sterilizing filter, thus contributing to the development of various sectors of the national economy.
