Kim Kum Su, 17, is the chairman of the Children’s Union Committee of Changdok School and one of the top honour students of the school.
According to Jon Jong Ho, principal of the school, Kim is a model for his schoolmates in terms of academic performance and personality traits.
Since he was younger, he had been highly individualistic and possessed of powerful concentration, observation, imagination and memory, which drew the attention of educators.
During his primary school days he presented collections of songs and poems for children he had composed, typically “O Glow over Mangyong Hill” and “Snow Flakes in February,” for which he was awarded the “Our School” Literature Prize and the April 15 Mangyongdae Creation Prize of Loyalty.
He is also much interested in natural sciences.
Since he started to study at Changdok School, he has won every in-house math contest. And he made by himself a writing robot and visual aid helping understand the Pascal principle by applying what he had learned in physics lessons, eliciting the admiration of his schoolmates.
He won the special prize at the 7th national foreign-language conversation contest of students of middle schools No. 1 in August last year.
In April he received the Kim Il Sung Children Honour Prize, the top honour for Korean children. After receiving the prize he wrote in his diary: I will become a pillar supporting a prosperous future Korea!
