The Nano Technology Development Centre under the Tansim Trading Company has recently developed a new-type nano composite antimicrobial and its manufacturing technique.
The new antimicrobial was made by synthesizing nano materials of metallic oxides and pure metals which are all strong in resisting bacteria and dissolving harmful organic matters.
“Through over two decades of research into nano inorganic antimicrobial we identified the optimal composition of nano materials and established the method to make it, thereby developing the nano composite antimicrobial which is characteristically superior to the antimicrobials that are recognized as excellent in the world,” said Pak Hak Chol, PhD and director of the institute.
The new-type antimicrobial shows a strong sterilizing effect at over 99.9% and an ability to dissolve harmful organic substances at over 90%. It has a marvellous effect of containing and disinfecting more than 600 types of pathogenic bacteria, including staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and has no negative effect on human body.
It is also effective for air purification, tap water sterilization, seed disinfection, sewage and waste water purification and ultraviolet screening, particularly for preventing and treating vaginitis, trichomonas vaginitis, athlete’s foot and pityriasis versicolor.
Addition of this nano material as a filling agent to plastics, rubber, building materials, paints and other materials improves their technical indices such as tensile strength and abrasion resistance and develops a strong antimicrobial effect. Besides, its strong ultraviolet screening effect retards aging of the materials and increases their serviceable life by more than twice.
The new-type multifunctional material was registered as a national high-tech product in March.
