A pot plant is an ornamental one made by planting suitable pots with plants and processing them in a formative and artistic way while restricting and arresting their growth. Pot plants are mainly used for ornamental purpose in houses, halls and corridors of public buildings, etc.
Kim Son Hwa living in Misan-dong No. 2 of Taesong District is not an expert. But she is cultivating different pot plants of high ornamental value for decoration of her living room.
She said:
"It can be said that pot plant is a miniature of a tree in nature. The process of cultivating it and making its shape artistically can be called a process of creating an art work.
But it is more difficult to cultivate pot plants rather than to raise common ornamental plants."
Kim Son Hwa had to replace soil in pots, water them, and trim and pinch sprouts.
She made much effort to raise the ornamental value of the pot plants while grasping the ecological requirements of the plants concerned.
She set the size, shape and colour of every pot according to the characteristics of the plants and put singular stones or moss on the surface of the pot soil to enhance the effect of the pot plants.
Meanwhile, she tried to give artistic beauty to every pot plant she cultivated while correctly combining formative and artistic skills with plant cultivation techniques.
In the course of cultivating the pot plants with her tireless efforts and patience, she possessed profound common knowledge, broad artistic judgment and high skills.
She presented some pot plants to the national botanical exhibition "Plants of Korea--2024" held last year, such as potted hawthorn depicting creeper and umbrella-shaped crown on it, potted Sargent juniper depicting a pine growing steadily on a sheer cliff and potted Malus baccata depicting a fruit tree on the meadow.
Kim Son Hwa said:
"If you cultivate pot plants, you can fully feel the freshness and beauty of the nature even at home.
And I think people can feel richer emotion and optimism in their life as well in the course of cultivating such plants."
It is part of her life to cultivate pot plants.
