True to the regional development policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, different parts of the country are directing efforts to consolidating the material and technical foundations of their raw materials production bases.

All cities and counties have renovated the appearances of their raw materials production bases and fully equipped them with farm machines and small- and medium-sized farm implements. On the basis of this, they are focusing efforts on farming well.

Having rationally distributed crops in conformity with the conditions of fields, they manure and cultivate crops according to farming processes in a scientific way by applying advanced farming methods, while improving the performance rate of farm machines.

In addition, they strive to increase the area of raw materials bases in the places with favourable cultivating conditions and create forests of economic value according to their geographical features.

Rangnim County of Jagang Province has newly planted more than 1 000 hectares of forests of economic value.

In the past the county, which is situated over 1 000 metres above sea level, has created forests of economic value with several limited species of trees including larch, Korean poplar and Korean spruce which grow well in highlands.

In order to produce a lot of specialties reflecting the features of mountainous areas at the regional industry factories to be newly built in it, the county has created forests of sea-buckthorn, black currant, hawthorn, Acanthopanax , wild pear, black chokeberry and other wild-fruit trees which have high edible and medicinal value and are highly resistant to cold. It has also increased the area of the forest of grafted pine nut trees of superior species. As a result, it has created over 1 000 hectares of forests of wild-fruit trees and oil-bearing trees and forest for timber production.

The city of Samjiyon in Ryanggang Province has laid a foundation for mass-producing saplings of bog bilberry of superior species, while Paegam County in the province has provided a guarantee for raising the per-hectare yield of beet according to the natural and climate conditions of highlands. Kim Hyong Jik County has also secured the seeds of industrial crops suited to its climate and soil conditions and introduced advanced cultivating methods.

Meanwhile, South Hwanghae Province has increased the cultivation area of Ongjin bamboo-reed for paper production. And North Hwanghae Province has doubled the cultivation area of sugar crops in most of its cities and counties.

The consolidated material and technical foundations of the raw materials production bases help the regional-industry factories in different parts of the country turn out more products of good quality preserving the features peculiar to the relevant regions, so as to fully meet the growing demands of the locals.
