-Visit to Unsan County, North Phyongan Province-
Unsan County is located in an eastern part of North Phyongan Province.
It is characteristic with many mountains, rivers and streams and frequent rain. Because of these natural and geographical features, it was prone to disasters by rain.
Now it has undergone a sea change.
Hundreds of houses were built at state expense, and recently administration and production buildings, hall of culture, clinic, ten-day kindergarten and nursery have sprung up in Tapsang-ri, preserving the characteristics of the rural community.
The new regional-industry factories, which belong to the first entities of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s policy of regional rejuvenation, produce goods including soybean paste and sauce, various drinks, pine nut biscuits, plastic goods of diversified shapes and with beautiful patterns and mugwort-flavoured soaps.
It is a source of pride for the local people that all products of their foodstuff factory are made with the raw materials available in their county.
The county has effectively conducted forest and water conservation, increasing the area of forests of trees of economic value and building embankments along the rivers and streams. In the course of this, new crop fields have been obtained, and those that suffered damage from cold weather have been improved, yielding bumper crops.
The locals are striving to further transform their land.
