One day in July 1976, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, who was giving field guidance in Ryanggang Province, climbed Mt Paektu early in the morning and proceeded to visit the Naegok Hot Spring in Pochon County.
He indicated in detail the orientation and ways for the development of the hot spring and referred to the need to build the sanatorium, cultural and educational facilities and restaurants well. Then he chose the site for each building.
On learning about the altitude of the place, he said that the area is a good place for medical treatment because it is 920 metres above sea level and that merely staying in the area would be much helpful for treatment.
Later, he, saying that more hot springs were needed to develop the Naegok Hot Spring, sent a team for prospecting mineral waters to discover new hot springs in the area.
A little more than a year later, the village of Naegok, which had been little known so far, was transformed into a fine hot spring sanatorium.
Numerous mineral waters and hot springs have been developed in many other parts of the country, with modern sanatoriums built there. As a result, the work for promoting the people’s health has reached a higher level of quality.
