The Yakjon Farm in Sukchon County, South Phyongan Province, is facelifting itself.
The first year when the programme for the rural revolution in the new era was put forward saw the building of about 150 modern dwelling houses, followed by the annual construction of a variety of kinds of houses ranging from separate houses to two- to three-storey apartment houses.
New houses built so far amount to approximately 600 houses of some 170 blocks. All the farmers are expected to move into new houses by next year.
The farmers enjoy a happy life in the modern houses provided to them for free by the state. At the same time they work harder to repay the benevolence of the state.
By overfulfilling their national grain production plans every year, all the workteams and all of their farmers have been honoured with high-yielding workteams and farmers.
The secret behind this success lies in the fact that the farm raised the fertility of soil with manures, sprayed growth promoter and nutritional solution to leaves in a scientific manner and applied fertilizers as suited to the basic balance.
The farm fares well not only in the production of grains such as wheat, barley, rice and corn but also in livestock farming, pomiculture and industrial crops farming.
The farmers are acquiring advanced techniques at the agricultural sci-tech learning space of the farm, and scores of them are attending online courses at Sukchon College of Agriculture every year.
Through the integrated agricultural production system every workteam and sub-workteam deal with production orders and review, growth and weather forecasts, and dissemination of new techniques in real time, promptly addressing technical problems arising in the course of implementing farming procedures.
Last year the farm adopted a method of growing rice seedlings in circular rotary frames in greenhouses, saving much manpower and seeds and transplanting rice seedlings in time.
Taking the lead across the country in all aspects such as the introduction of new farming approaches and techniques, the effort to put farming on an IT footing, the irrigational construction and the rate of mechanization, the farm entered the ranks of the top 30 farms of 2024 in February this year.
