Weightlifters of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea set 10 world records in the women's body weight and 2 world records in the men's body weight in a little over three months, taking the first place in the standings of world record possession of countries.
After the International Weightlifting Federation decided to hold matches of new body-weight events from June 2025, the DPRK weightlifting superstars made new world records one after another in international games from the World Championships held in Norway in October.
In the women's 69- and 63-kilogram categories Song Kuk Hyang and Ri Suk lifted 120 kilograms and 111 kilograms in snatch, 150 kilograms and 142 kilograms in clean and jerk and 270 kilograms and 253 kilograms in total, setting three world records of those body weights. 10 world records including those three ones in the women's body weight are equivalent to more than 80 percent of the total numbers of world records at present which broke 24 standard records set anew by the International Weightlifting Federation.
In the meantime, the men's weightlifting stands first in the number of world record possession as Ro Kwang Ryol and Ri Chong Song have world records respectively in the 88-kilogram clean and jerk and the 79-kilogram total.
