In December last year it was reported that more than 90 young people from Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, volunteered to work at the Kangdong Combined Greenhouse Farm.

Amid the warm send-off from a huge crowd of citizens they left for the large-scale vegetable production base. In recent years such an event has become commonplace in the country.

Young Koreans regard patriotic deeds as the aspiration and worth of their life. That’s why they readily take up difficult and labour-consuming jobs and work heart and soul with a patriotic determination.

For the last five years since 2021 when the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea was held, hundreds of thousands of young people have volunteered to find such jobs.

In 2021 alone over 10 000 young people volunteered to work at factories, coal and other mines and forestry stations across the country.

When a task was advanced to build a new street in the Sopho area in addition to the project to build 10 000 flats in Pyongyang in 2023, as many as 100 000 young people from across the country volunteered for the capital city construction project at once.

The volunteers successfully built Jonwi Street, a large architectural group comprising high-rise or super-high-rise apartment houses for thousands of households and service buildings, in a short span of time.

Every year numerous young people volunteer to work in coal and other mines, factories and farms. Some overfulfil their national economic plans and gather rich harvests in socialist rural areas while others dedicate their youth to educational work at schools in outlying islands and mountainous regions, bringing up the future of the country.

Young people turned the flood-hit area in North Phyongan Province on the banks of the Amnok River into a cultured rural town in a matter of months, and built a combined greenhouse farm and a vegetable science research base, both put on a modern, intensive and industrialized footing, against the town as the background.

On January 2 the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the construction site of the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm. During the visit he said: The young builders came to the grand construction site, to which the Party and the state attach importance, so as to transform the island area, which had severely been hit by natural disaster, into an ideal farming town in the new era in more than 500 days. Witnessing the great strength of the youth and every structure associated with the passion and sincerity of our younger generation, our people picture the eternal prosperity of their country, and seeing them growing up to be robust, they get convinced of the continuity of Korean-style socialism. There is no such younger generation as the Korean youth in the world and this is something very pleasant and satisfactory for the Party responsible for the future destiny of the country.
