In recent years new rural houses have been mushrooming across the DPRK–from the remote mountain villages in the northern areas to the eastern and western coastal areas and inland and plain regions.

Having laid precious foundations for carrying out the grand plan for rural construction by turning the city of Samjiyon in Ryanggang Province into a cultured mountain town in which all structures are perfect in terms of practicality, diversity and formative and artistic beauty, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un set forth a programme of the rural revolution in the new era at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea in late December 2021.

It is the policy on rural construction of our Party to turn all rural villages in the country into rich and cultured socialist ideal villages at the level similar to those in Samjiyon in the near future, he said at the meeting.

The following year a gigantic campaign was launched to transform the rural villages.

Kim Jong Un indicated all the tasks for the rural housing construction in details and energetically led the campaign.

He went over thousands of technical drawings of rural houses that preserve regional characteristics, and gave meticulous instructions on the means and methods of transport and storage of the cement to be supplied to each city and county.

Several months later, modern single- and low-storey houses of different styles and public buildings that suited the regional features and met the farmers’ needs for living began to spring up in all parts of the country, followed by ceremonies for moving into new houses.

Everyone who received a house licence and moved into a new house was so excited and stayed up all night. They were so grateful to the state for providing them with the new houses for free.

The Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK held from February 26 to March 1, 2023, analyzed and reviewed the first-year results of the nationwide rural housing construction and set a higher goal for rural construction.

This led to a competition in building modern rural villages in different parts of the country, with the result that house-moving ceremonies were consecutively held year after year and excitement built up across the country.

Last year alone, as many as 32 000 houses were newly built at hundreds of farms.

From the beginning of this year house-moving ceremonies were held at Phungthan farm in the city of Sunchon, Changbong Farm in Jonchon County and many other farms.
