In recent years, modern consumer goods production bases conducive to improving the people’s standard of living have been newly built or remodelled in the sector of light industry.
This has resulted in a remarkable increase of the varieties and kinds of essential consumer goods and a considerable improvement in their quality.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea that the renovation of light industry factories should be stepped up and they should steadily build themselves up by reinforcing their weak parts and processes and setting up missing ones, and advanced a task to build more modern and standard light industry factories in an active and planned way.
Accordingly, such factories as the Taesongsan Ice Cream Factory, the Ponghwa Polyester Fibre Factory, the Pyongyang Tannery, the Pyongyang Leather Shoes Factory, the Sinpho Canned Fish Factory, the Jongju City Stevia Processing Factory, the Hyesan Kimchi Factory, the Haeju City Jwayangsan Spring Water Bottling Factory, the Pomhyanggi Institute of the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory and the Phyongsong Instant Noodle Factory were newly built or renovated.
Kim Jong Un always tells officials that consumer goods to be used by the people should be of the highest quality and that they should break with the viewpoint that it is impossible to ensure the quality of the goods due to the country’s difficult economic situation but work harder and spare no efforts to do so–just because of that situation.
Therefore, light industrial goods exhibitions are held in Pyongyang and provinces on a regular basis every year, which serves as an important occasion in promoting the qualitative development of consumer goods.
These events help transfer, share and generalize the experiences of the advanced units.
