During their military occupation of Korea the Japanese imperialists conducted a “survey” of books inspiring patriotic spirit in the local people and confiscated or burned many of them up.
In the period between 1910 and 1918 alone they enlisted gendarmerie, police and government officials in searching private, local and village schools across Korea on the pretext of “data collection” in a bid to seize classical books.
They even extended the required period so as to take away and eradicate classical books including historical ones.
As a result, they burned up hundreds of thousands of classical books in this period.
Not content with this, they mercilessly imprisoned the local people who hid or read historical books in secret.
In those days they confiscated books on Korean history and set them on fire and committed an organizational wholesale search of every bookshop and house. They burned any local books out of hand in case they contained a half-page description of Korean history and treated any person who hid such a book as a criminal.
Moreover, they devised a scheme to compile “Korean history” out of the design to distort and fabricate it, and on the pretext of it robbed a large number of valuable classical books.
They burned all the materials up except those that could be used for distorting history. They went to great lengths to burn the materials concerning Korean history when they were ousted from Korea.
As a result, nearly all of valuable historical books of Korea disappeared when the country was liberated on August 15, 1945.
The Japanese imperialists committed such crimes with the design to eradicate the soul of the Korean people and assimilate them into the Japanese nation by leaving their distorted history books alone.
History records no such gangsters as the Japanese imperialists who made desperate attempts to mercilessly seize and burn up valuable classical books of a country and even distort its history completely in a bid to obliterate its brilliant culture and traditions.
The Japanese history of invasion of Korea is run through with distortions and fabrications from start to finish, and Japan persists in distorting history.
No matter how much water may flow under the bridge and even if one generation is replaced by another, the Korean people will never forget the past crimes of Japan and are firmly determined to settle accounts with it without fail.
