The Onpho Working People’s Holiday Camp was inaugurated with due ceremony on January 20.
The holiday camp built in a scenic place in Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province, forming a unique architectural group, is a comprehensive service centre for leisure activities and medical treatment equipped with facilities for health spa, recuperation and other service activities.
The camp with a nearly 80-year history has been rebuilt into another structure demonstrating local development. This is associated with the painstaking effort made by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
In July some years ago he visited the camp to stress the need to rebuild it into a comprehensive service centre for leisure activities and medical treatment in which the people can receive hot-spring therapy while enjoying highly civilized leisure activities.
On March 6 last year he gave field guidance over the reconstruction project.
He gave detailed instructions, pointing to the need to further improve the service conditions and treatment environment so that health spa can contribute to the promotion of the people’s health and their enjoyment of civilization, to expand and diversify the sphere and space of cultural life by making the most of the topographical features of the picturesque mountainous area, and to make full preparations to start its operation as soon as the project was completed.
Feasting his eyes on the Onpho stream meandering round the buildings and other parts of the camp, he told the accompanying officials that there is no such a good place as the site of the holiday camp where Kumgang red pine trees grow and there is a rich source of hot spring and the quarter for stroll should not be built like a park but remain intact in its natural state.
He went on to say that the holiday camp boasts attraction somewhat different from that of the Yangdok Hot Spring Resort and the people would visit the camp to enjoy another different spa culture soon.
Today the holiday camp is contributing to the promotion of public health as a monumental structure symbolic of the country’s spa culture.
