On February 1 the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm was inaugurated.
The large-scale greenhouse farm, the fourth of its kind among those built in the DPRK in recent years, is comprised of well over a thousand modern greenhouses of different types, a vegetable science research centre, modern houses and recreational facilities in good harmony with distinctive landscape.
The farm has adopted an intelligent integrated production system designed to coordinate management and production, and as well as valuable recycling technologies.
In particular, the research centre is supposed to play a role as an academic guidance unit and scientific research centre that conducts scientific research into vegetables and also provides nationwide technical service related to the growing of greenhouse vegetables.
The area of Wihwa Island which is home to the farm was the place where only sand dust was blown about by strong river wind due to yearly natural disasters.
In July 2024 record downpour came, making everything in the area beyond recognition.
The 22nd emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea adopted a decision on rapidly clearing the flood damage in the area and stabilizing the life of the flood victims.
Thus, the flood-hit area was turned into an ideal cultured rural town with permanent embankments immune from any flood built in only 130-odd days, epitomizing modern civilization.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un unveiled a plan to build a new combined greenhouse farm at the inauguration ceremony of the modern rural town held in December 2024 after completely removing the traces of the severe flood damage, and hoped for a more civilized life of the local people.
The successful completion of the largest-ever greenhouse farm and the vegetable science research centre is inconceivable apart from his energetic guidance. He attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on February 10, 2025, and dug the first spadeful of earth and pressed the button for blasting, and later visited the construction site several times.
It took the young builders less than a year to build the farm in hearty response to his ennobling plan and greet the day of its inauguration.
Now the farm’s greenhouse blocks of diverse types including solar-heated greenhouse, produce various species of plants such as lettuce, celery, tomato, pepper and cucumber.
