Recorded in the history of military aggression against Korea by the Japanese imperialists is a protocol forcibly concluded by them.
Hayashi, the then Japanese diplomatic minister to Korea, visited Korea’s Emperor Kojong to urge him to discuss at a ministerial meeting the measures for promoting “friendship and cooperation” with Japan.
But Kojong gave no answer to the gangster-like demand as a token of his point-blank refusal.
As the attempt failed, Japan dispatched huge troops to Korea to put it virtually under military occupation.
While the Japanese imperialists tried to adopt the protocol by all means, Hayashi concluded a “secret agreement” with a traitorous official of the feudal Korean government on January 23, 1904.
The Korean government flatly rejected it as its contents were run through with gangster-like demands in total violation of the sovereignty of the country and the “agreement” was illegally concluded by bribing an individual official in disregard of the government.
Much upset by this, Japan railroaded the “Korea-Japan Protocol” with pro-Japanese traitors a month later, thus creating a condition for its military occupation of Korea and paving the way for getting a tighter control over the internal affairs of the Korean government by placing it under the yoke of subordinate “alliance.”
Later, it completely colonized Korea by forging the “Ulsa Five-point Treaty” in 1905 and the “Jongmi Seven-point Treaty” in 1907.
After occupying Korea by such crafty and vicious means, the Japanese imperialists imposed untold misfortunes and sufferings upon the Korean people for decades, subjecting them to the misery of colonial slavery.
Though over 80 years have passed since its defeat, Japan is denying and distorting the historical facts, far from honestly apologizing for and repenting of its crime-woven history and thoroughly compensating for its past wrongdoings.
Japan’s tricky behaviour to beautify and justify its blood-stained past enrages the Korean people and makes them harden their resolve to take thousand-fold revenge on it.
History cannot be concealed by any denial nor changed by any distortion.
