The DPRK encourages coastal cities and counties to bring their natural and geographical potentials and resources into effective exploitation and application.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un had long conceived a far-reaching plan to improve the people’s standard of living as early as possible by making effective use of the seas in conformity with the natural and geographical features of the country with a long coastline. He designated Sinpho, a typical coastal city with a small area under cultivation compared to its population, as a model unit for offshore farming and made sure that a decision on building the Sinpho City Offshore Farm as a new base for aquaculture was adopted at the Tenth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
On July 15, 2024, he visited the Phungo-dong area in the city where he presided over a consultative meeting on the regional economic development.
Saying that if the scallop and kelp farming is conducted well in the waters off the Phungo-dong area, the city of Sinpho, which has barren land and poor economic potentials, can become the richest among the cities and counties in the country in three to four years, he expressed his determination to have the Sinpho City Offshore Farm built into a model of aquaculture in the new century.
Several months later, he visited the city again to learn about the construction of the farm and the creation of breeding grounds and preparations for the farm’s management, and took all measures to complete the project flawlessly within the year.
His leadership resulted in the establishment of the Sinpho City Offshore Farm in December that year and another modern offshore farm in Ragwon County the following year.
The successful inauguration of the two offshore farms opened up a sure prospect for promoting regional development by building offshore farms suited to the regional characteristics in different parts of the East and West seas of Korea.
