Today scientific farming is gathering momentum across the countryside of the DPRK.
Farms in different parts of the country are competitively adopting scientific farming methods and advanced sci-tech products such as nutrient cold-bed rice seedling cultivation, mulching cultivation, fish farming in paddy fields, cultivation of rice seedlings in greenhouses, seed-coating materials and electric pulse water treatment device.
The establishment of an online consultative system and a management information system in the agricultural sector facilitates exchange of opinions and consultation over the technical issues arising in farming operations and makes it possible to keep tabs on the farming processes, supply and consumption of farming materials and estimated crop yields in all the farms across the country so as to control farming operations in a scientific way.
This has built up the self-confidence of the agricultural workers that they can reap high yields on any poor land.
The Saphyong Farm in Kapsan County, Ryanggang Province in the northern highlands, has steadily improved farmland which is 800-1 100 metres above sea level, thus systematically boosting grain production every year.
The Township Farm in Hwadae County, North Hamgyong Province, and the Samjigang Farm in Jaeryong County, South Hwanghae Province, overfulfilled their production plans by planting new high-yielding strains in the areas of winter wheat cultivation last year.
The Usan Farm in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province, too, produced high output by introducing non-ploughing rice cultivation. Its farmers say that the method helps save fuel, quicken striking root and promote tillering.
An increasing number of farms, workteams and sub-workteams are benefiting from scientific farming.
