The DPRK applies the principle of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliance in defence to state building and activities.
President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il identified independence as the lifeblood of the Korean revolution and the cornerstone in state building, and advanced the revolution and construction in the Korean way.
By applying the principle of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliance in defence to state building and activities, the DPRK has been making remarkable achievements in the effort to develop itself and promote the people’s wellbeing.
In recent years it has implemented the political line, the strategy for national development, through self-reliance by believing in its people and sustaining its fighting traditions, and maintained its development mode of steadily accelerating socialist construction.
According to the strategy for readjustment and reinforcement of the Workers’ Party of Korea, it has promoted organic cooperation among key industries and achieved sustainable growth and development in the economic field, thus laying solid foundations for keeping the national economy on a new upward swing.
A noticeable change has been made in the people’s living as a result of the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang and amid the implementation of the programme for the rural revolution in the new era and the Regional Development 20×10 Policy.
A tangible progress has also been made in science and technology, education and public health by dint of self-reliance.
In the course of such struggle to overcome the challenges and make a stubborn advance towards realizing ideals by dint of self-reliance and self-sufficiency, the motive force of the Korean revolution has grown incomparably stronger.
While adhering to the strategic line of self-reliance and strengthening its nuclear forces and implementing it to the letter, the DPRK has boosted the might of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliant defence up to a new height.
The First Session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK held in March reaffirmed the need to consistently adhere to the principle of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliance in defence in state building and activities.
True to this principle, the DPRK is now vigorously working towards the implementation of the new long-term plan set forth by the Ninth Party Congress.
