The 34th National Festival of Science and Technology opened.
Present at the festival on the theme "The spirit of self-reliance and strength of science and technology" are scientists, technicians and officials from more than 500 units of commissions, ministries, national agencies and provinces (municipalities).
The festival will be divided into such panels as power, metal, chemistry, machinery, coal, railway transport, light industry, agriculture and IT. There will be exhibition and presentation of scientific and technical achievements made in the efforts for ensuring domestic production of raw and other materials and equipment, upgrading production processes and perfecting the self-supporting economic structure, and exchanges of new technologies and new goods.
Its opening ceremony took place at the Three-Revolution Exhibition House on April 23.
It was attended by Kim Jae Ryong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, member of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet; Pak Thae Song, vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee; Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission; Jang Chol, president of the State Academy of Sciences; and officials concerned and working people.
After the ceremony the participants looked round the festival venue.
