It happened one day during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953).
President Kim Il Sung assigned a task of working out a regulation concerning the forest management to the officials in the forestry sector. They made its draft with painstaking efforts and presented it to him.
After carefully examining its articles one by one, the President signed his approval on the document. Noting that there must be the masters to execute the regulation, he proposed recalling thousands of soldiers of the Korean People’s Army and sending them as forest rangers.
All the officials opened their eyes wide in surprise as they never dreamed of transferring such many personnel to the forest conservation in the crucial period of the war when even a soldier was badly needed at the front.
But the President regarded the forest creation and conservation as an undertaking of everlasting significance for the country which warrants an urgent solution, a question as important as defending the country.
So, a large number of soldiers were recalled from the front to serve as forest rangers during the hard-fought war decisive to the destiny of the country and the nation.
