The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) joined the ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF) on July 27, 2000 in order to promote cooperation with ASEAN and the countries in the region in achieving peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region and attaining common prosperity.
The goal of ARF – which is to realize peace and security of the region through dialogue and confidence building – fully accords with the foreign policy stance of the DPRK government to establish durable peace on the Korean peninsula and actively develop mutually beneficial cooperation with the regional countries, and since joining ARF, we have exerted sincere efforts to implement stages goals of ARF process for confidence building, preventive diplomacy and conflict resolution.
The participants at the annual ministerial meetings, senior officials’ meetings(SOM), and other meetings of the Forum, expressed understanding and shared views towards the principled stand and persistent efforts of the DPRK to ensure peace on the Korean peninsula.
We appreciate that ASEAN, a leading organization of ARF, makes its fair efforts towards regional security and development of relations among countries under the principles of respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs and consensus, and in particular, maintains its principled stand of supporting realization of peace and security of the Korean peninsula through dialogue and negotiations.
It is the consistent position of the government of the DPRK to develop the cooperative relations with all regional countries, on the basis of the principles of respect for sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit with shared desire for independence, justice, peace and prosperity.
We are convinced that the relations between our country and the countries in the region will be strengthened and developed more effectively in various fields through the ASEAN Regional Forum.
