At present, protecting the ozone layer presents itself as a vital issue for the living of human beings and the future of the earth.
Proceeding from the necessity to take a realistic and strong measure to ban the use of substances that deplete the ozone layer, the UN Environment concluded the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer in 1985 and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer on September 16, 1987. The 49th session of the UN General Assembly in December 1994 adopted a resolution on setting September 16 as World Ozone Day.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of conclusion of the Vienna. “Ozone for life: 35 years of ozone layer protection” is the theme of World Ozone Day for this year.
On this occasion, many countries and regions around the world are organizing various activities to protect the ozone layer.
The DPRK, which regards environmental protection as an important affair to guarantee the people’s health and economic development, is making efforts to this end.
It has signed several amendments to the Montreal Protocol, including the Kigali amendment (September 2017).
It takes measure to develop the substitute of HCFC. Wide publicity is given to raise public awareness of the substances that deplete the ozone layer.
Based on a plan to perform its commitment to the convention, it ensures that relevant institutions enhance their role.
