Myalgia is classified into two types, instantaneous and delayed pains.
- Instantaneous pain occurs during or immediately after physical exercise due to the following factors:
One is the accumulation of lactic acid after high-intensity exercise.
Intense training may lead to the reduction of blood supply to muscle tissues and local anemia and subsequent muscle pain.
And you will feel myalgia when your muscle tissues are damaged during heavy exercise.
- There are two hypotheses concerning the cause of delayed pain.
① The first one is an injury hypothesis
Muscles may be damaged if a player fails to do a sufficient warm-up and is under physical burden for a long time.
② Another one is a convulsion hypothesis
Exercise may give rise to local anemia, which in turn generates some pain-causing substances, and when such substances are accumulated to a certain degree, they will stimulate the peripheral nerves in the muscles to cause pain.
- Methods of relieving and preventing delayed pain
Applying a hot towel will improve blood circulation and relieve muscular convulsion.
Physical therapy also relieves muscular pain and massage releases muscular tension and promotes metabolism in the tissues.
Taking vitamin C helps prevent or reduce muscular pain.
