April 7 is World Health Day.
In the world, some people can enjoy a healthier life and get closer to the public health service.
But some of them fail to get access to the health service including regular vaccination, health protection, etc. This causes inevitable diseases and early death.
Enjoying the highest level of healthy life is one of the rights for everyone irrespective of race, religion, political view and the economic and social conditions.
Accordingly, the World Health Organization set “Building a fairer, healthier world” as the theme of this year’s World Health Day, and called on all the member states to turn out to provide all the people with living and working conditions conducive to good health and to ensure that they receive high-quality medical service whenever they need and wherever they are.
The public health work in the DPRK is regarded as the most important task in protecting the lives and improving people’s health, and a basic task for stabilizing and improving their life.
Such laws as the “Law of the DPRK on Public Health” and the “Law of the DPRK on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases” stipulate the principles and regulations arising in the work of safeguarding the lives and promoting people’s health.
All the working people receive free medical care, regardless of gender, age, domicile, occupation and the quantity and quality of work done, and the state pays special attention to the health of children and pregnant women.
The nationwide telemedicine system has been set up, linking the central hospitals with hospitals in provinces, cities and counties. So, the people receive medical service in time wherever they work or what kind of diseases they suffer from.
The state is pushing ahead with the work of intensifying hygiene and anti-epidemic work, improving environment and preventing diseases which threaten the lives and health of working people.
Thanks to the district doctor system under which doctors take charge of certain districts to take care of residents’ health, the Korean people regularly receive health service not only in hospitals but with the aid of healthcare workers.
