On December 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin in his speech delivered at an Enlarged Council Meeting of Ministry of Defence stated that the increased tension prevailing in Europe falls under the responsibility of the United States.
He pointed out that “MK-41” launching pads scheduled to be deployed also in Poland, as they were already deployed in Romania, are the ones improved for launching “Tomahawk” cruise missiles, and expressed concern over the American ongoing push for deploying the elements of its global missile defence system closer to the Russian border.
He noted that once the missile complex of the U.S. and NATO are deployed in Ukraine, it would take only 7~10 minutes for the missiles to reach Russia, and in case of the hypersonic missiles the flying time will be reduced to 5 minutes, and he stressed that if the aggressive policy of the West remains unchanged, Russia would take corresponding military and technical measures.
President Putin warned that Russia has the right to take measures for protecting its national security and sovereignty and accordingly, it would react resolutely to the unfriendly acts of the West.
