China Exposes U.S. Human Rights Situation

It was reported that the U.S. Congress recently adopted what is called the “Uighurs Forced Labour Prevention Act” that would impose a complete ban on import of products manufactured in the region of Xinjiang, claiming that the Chinese government is imposing forced labour upon its ethnic minorities including the Uighurs in Xinjiang.

In relation to this, the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said on December 15: “China firmly opposes the interference by the U.S. Congress in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of Xinjiang-related issues. By cooking up lies and making troubles on such issues, some U.S. politicians are seeking to contain China and hold back China’s development.”

The spokesperson revealed and denounced the human rights situation of the U.S. as follows:

There are approximately 500,000 child farmworkers there and roughly 240,000 to 325,000 women and children are victims of sexual slavery; up to 100,000 people were trafficked into the U.S. for forced labour annually over the past five years. The spokesperson maintained that the U.S. should face up to and address the grave issue of forced labour at home.

He also censured that what the U.S. government did to Native Americans constitutes real genocide and compared to the end of the 15 th century, the population of Native Americans dwindled from five million to 250,000, less than one twentieth of the original; even till this day, Native Americans are still a marginalized group on political, economic, cultural and social fronts, long suffering from systemic discrimination in a wide range of areas.

Many countries expressed serious concerns over the issues of human trafficking and forced labour running rife in the U.S. during the dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the issue of modern slaves at the 48 th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in September, 2021. This is an actual proof of the seriousness of human rights situation in the U.S.

The world should see squarely and remain vigilant against the true nature of the U.S. in its much-touted claim that it “defends human rights”.
