Against Public Sentiments

Date: 22/06/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

As the Ukrainian crisis drags on, voice of concern is getting louder in the U.S.

A few days ago, “New York Times” revealed that the goal pursued by the U.S. and the West through their continuous military aid to Ukraine is not to solve the crisis itself but to get out of their political crises at homes.

It said it is really dangerous for the U.S. to let Ukraine harbor a lingering illusion of the recapture of Crimea.

The U.S. media are also expressing concerns that the economic crisis can take a turn for the worse at home which is prevalent with price hikes of food and fuel, and inflation, etc., because the Ukrainian crisis continues, with no end in sight.

According to the domestic poll conducted by the AP and Chicago University of the U.S., the support rate for the U.S. policy towards Ukraine dropped to 45% in mid-May from 60% in March. This is an accurate mirror of public sentiments wishing for the earlier termination of the Ukrainian crisis. Most of respondents said that the existing inflation of domestic prices is running higher in the wake of the Ukrainian crisis and urged their government to address the economic problem at home first.

In this regards, Russia stated that the U.S. supply of military equipment to Ukraine would not only increase the danger of direct confrontation between the U.S. and Russia, but also aggravate the Ukrainian crisis. It also said that Washington seemed to make its decision in favor of the Ukrainian war as a last resort to inflict a strategic defeat upon Moscow.

All circumstances indicate that the reason behind the U.S. absorption in military aid to Ukraine is not to solve the Ukrainian crisis itself but to realize its aggressive end for world hegemony.

If the U.S. truly wants to see the Ukrainian issue be resolved, it should stop its reckless military aid true to the public feelings and put an end to the act of adding fuel to fire.
