Japan’s Permanent Membership of UNSC is a Pipe Dream

Japan is making desperate efforts to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Since the 1990s, it has set the permanent membership of the UNSC as the goal of the utmost importance in its foreign policy and has been exerting strenuous “efforts” to achieve it.

It enticed the international society with blandishments such as  “contribution” to world peace, waving its money bag or begging the U.S., its master, for support and cooperation.

Taking advantage of the Ukrainian crisis, Japan has been amplifying and misleading public opinion on the “excessive exercise of veto by permanent members of the UNSC”. And it is also bent on the reform of the UNSC, arguing about the “necessity of having a framework for establishing a new international order.”

Recently, it is presenting an absurd argument which goes as follows;

A permanent member state of the UNSC should actively take part in peace-keeping operations to ensure global peace and security. But Japan’s exercise of the right to collective self-defense is prohibited by article 9 of the constitution. Accordingly, a prerequisite for the permanent membership is the constitutional reform.

From 1992, Japan has craftily changed the interpretation of the constitution to steadily dispatch “self-defense forces” to several parts of the world under the pretext of “peace-keeping”. 30 years have passed since then. But looking on this fact with indifference, it makes a fuss as if the current constitution is restricting its bid to be a permanent member of the UNSC.

Herein lies its sinister intention to kill two birds with one stone, that is, to get legal justification for its overseas expansion and world hegemony by revising the current constitution at any cost, while coveting after the permanent membership.

Japan is a heinous criminal state which occupied our country by means of force for 40-odd years and inflicted indescribable misery and pain on the Asian people. It is also clearly defined as an enemy state in the UN Charter. Such a country can never become a permanent member state of UNSC. Neither should it be permitted to get the permanent membership.
