In the early 20th century, the Korean people were subjected to colonial slavery by the Japanese imperialists for over four decades. During the years of distress the sovereignty of Korea was trampled upon by the Japanese imperialists, with the result that the destiny of the Korean nation was like a fish on the chopping board.
Among the culprits for the invasion of Korea were Katsura and Taft.
On July 29, 1905, Katsura Taro, the then Japanese prime minister and William Taft, the then US Secretary of War, fabricated the Katsura-Taft Agreement.
The agreement stipulates that Japan shall recognize the US colonial rule in the Philippines and in return the latter shall collaborate with the former in its invasion of Korea and recognize its “protection” in Korea, that the United States shall join the British-Japanese alliance, and that the United States, Japan and Britain shall take joint action in their invasion of the Far East.
After the conclusion of the agreement, the Japanese imperialists, backed by the US imperialists and without any interference by other powers, concocted the illegal and invalid Korea-Japan negotiation treaty (Ulsa Five-Point Treaty) in November that year which is devoid of the approval of Emperor Kojong, sovereign of the feudal Joson dynasty, and the seal of the state. And in July 1907 they concluded the Jongmi Seven-Point Treaty to completely stripped Korea of its right of home administration.
In August 1910 they cooked up the Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty in which it specified that Korea would deliver its ruling power over the country to the king of Japan completely and forever and Korea be annexed to Japan.
And they enforced colonial fascist rule, the severest of its kind, and committed unpardonable heinous unethical crimes in Korea. They brutally massacred a large number of innocent people; millions of young and middle-aged men were commandeered to serve in the Japanese army or to work; 200 000 women were forced to serve as sexual slaves for the Japanese army.
Though Japan and the USA disguised the Katsura-Taft Agreement as if it were for the peace and security in Asia, it is a preposterous allegation.
It is an illegal forged document, born of collusion between the USA and Japan, which legalized their colonial rule over other countries by reducing Korea as a bargaining chip in an attempt to divide a sphere of influence in Asia.
Japan has not given up its old dream of a “Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere” and made desperate attempts to repeat its criminal past.
The Korean people will remember the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists and settle accounts with them without fail even though time may change and one generation may be replaced by another.
