One late night in March Juche 40(1951), President Kim Il Sung visited the house of Ho Hon, speaker of the Supreme People’s Assembly and also president of Kim Il Sung University at that time.
Sympathizing with the old man who was living separated from his family, the President chatted with him for a while. “Some people are now trying to find fault with you, but I believe you. You should only believe in the Party and work hard with great strength and courage whatever they say,” he said.
At that time, those who were not well prepared were so jealous of him as he enjoyed the high confidence of the Party and criticized him behind his back. So he didn’t play janggi (Korean chess) for a long time though he liked to play it very much.
Kim Il Sung saw the chessboard covered with dust and suggested playing a chess game with him in order to relieve him of the unpleasant feeling.
Ho felt very sorry for taking precious time of the leader and played the game falteringly at the beginning. But the President was so informal that he relaxed soon and was engrossed in the game.
The game ended and the night wore on in a pleasant atmosphere. And he felt growing admiration for and gratitude to Kim Il Sung, the incarnation of warm affection and passion.
