The National Inter-Provincial Games-2022 were held from September 3 to 9 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK.
The finals took place at Kim Il Sung Stadium on September 9 amid great interest of all the people and sports fans.
Among the spectators were Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, first vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, other Party and government officials, chief secretaries of provincial committees of the WPK, chairpersons of provincial people’s committees, deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly, participants in the celebrations of the 74th anniversary of the DPRK and Pyongyang citizens.
Veteran officials who had worked in the Party, government and military for a long time also saw the games.
Prior to the games, Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, made an address.
Expressing the expectation that contestants would powerfully demonstrate high techniques they had practised in ordinary times and the organizing ability and power of combination of the collective, he declared the start of final matches.
There were a march-past of players of each province and a demonstration of gymnasts before the final matches of each event were played.
A player from South Hwanghae Province breasted the tape in the relay race by overpowering all the rivals amid the heated rooting of spectators.
North Hwanghae Province came first in the leg-tied race and slogan-making puzzle after hurdles, while Kangwon Province and Nampho City were triumphant respectively in the match of carrying a ball on the head, holding another in arms and dribbling other and the archery game.
The games climaxed with the tug of war between Pyongyang and North Phyongan Provincial teams.
The Pyongyang won the game where the might of the collective was fully displayed.
After the games were over, provincial total rankings, standings according to events and rooting rankings were made public and prizes were awarded to winning teams.
South Hwanghae Province came first in the total standings to snatch a rotating trophy, followed by North Hamgyong Province and North Hwanghae Province.
The games served as a good occasion for adding joy and optimism to all the people and giving powerful impetus to the development of mass-based sports.
