Not long ago, there was a party at a restaurant in Mirae Scientists Street to congratulate Ri Ki Ok, resident in Mirae-dong, Phyongchon District, on her 68th birthday.
More than ten years have passed since she retired from her job as a teacher of a middle school in the capital city of Pyongyang, but her former students gathered at the restaurant to congratulate her birthday. Among them were those whom she had taught in her 20s and others who had graduated from the school just a few years ago before her retirement. Almost all her former students of six terms whom she had taught for over 30 years got together for the party.
Previously, her disciples used to get together on her birthdays and national holidays by terms to congratulate her. This year, however, they decided to gather all together.
It is said that the whole life of a teacher is reflected on the appearances of his or her disciples. Our teacher will be proud if she sees her former students who have grown up as the pillars of the country, all at once.
With this thought in mind they arranged the birthday party. Among them were Party officials, officials of ministries and national agencies, university lecturers, officers of the Korean People’s Army and the Ministry of Public Security.
Though the years of graduation, jobs and positions were different from each other, they all alike greeted their former teacher calling “our teacher” as they had done in their middle school days.
The appellation “our teacher” reflects the appearance of the Korean society which is brimming with the noble moral ethics of respecting the teacher who inculcated the gratitude for the socialist system in the hearts of his or her students, taught them new knowledge and led them along the right path.
