From olden times Koreans have extensively used spas containing sulphur and salts in promoting their health and preventing and treating diseases.
Spa culture is thriving along with the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , who had long been studying the materials about spas abundant in the country, was pleased to see a hot spring gushing out in the Onjong-ri area of Yangdok County in August 2018. Such a good spa should be used by our people, he said, adding that he decided to have a resort built there for people to enjoy spa.
He continued: Yangdok County has high mountains and thick forests and boasts fresh air and good scenery. So it is suitable for building a holiday camp or sanitarium.
And he gave instructions on the issues arising in turning the area into a hot spring resort, including the construction of a large hotel and self-service lodgings around it, a variety of modern leisure facilities, and indoor and outdoor spas for individual, public and medicinal purposes.
Afterwards, he made sure that the project could be completed on a high level.
As a result, a multi-functional hot spring resort sprang up in the Yangdok area, where people can receive medical treatment and conduct leisure activities.
Feasting his eyes on an enchanting view of the resort on his visit in December 2019, Comrade Kim Jong Un said with a big smile on his face that a multi-functional resort that is rare to be seen in the world has come into being in this long-secluded mountain village.
Thanks to his leadership similar hot spring facilities were built in Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province, and in Samjiyon City, Ryanggang Province. The Onpho Working People’s Holiday Camp in the former and the Milyong Hotel in the latter, both with its own characteristics, have modern lodgings, service buildings and steaming hot water baths, which draw visitors all year round.
