At the outset of the New Year, a destroyer of the U.S. has passed through the Taiwan Strait for the first time.
On January 5th, the spokesperson for the Eastern Battle Zone of Chinese People’s Liberation Army pointed out that they have monitored with vigilance the U.S. warship’s passage through the Taiwan Strait from beginning to end and that every single movement of it has come under close scrutiny.
The spokesperson for the Chinese embassy to the U.S. has issued a statement in strong opposition to the passage through the Taiwan Strait by the U.S. warship and urged the U.S. to put an immediate end to the acts of undermining the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.
Under the pretext of ensuring the “freedom of navigation”, the U.S. warships are always flexing their muscles but this is not an act intended to safeguard the freedom and openness of the Taiwan Strait, the spokesperson stated. He also asserted that China remains highly vigilant and is ready to cope with all threats and challenges, and that it will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In the last year alone, the U.S. has reportedly dispatched its warships to the Taiwan Strait for eight times.
Situation analysts are unanimous in their comment that the U.S. moves to contain China with “Taiwan card” would become a routine and that such moves of the U.S. constitutes a very dangerous act as it puts an obstacle to the peaceful resolution of Taiwan issue.
