West Coast Exchange, North Korea Watcher Conference, Sept. 2026

Solar energy, biomass, wind power and other natural energy sources are being actively exploited and used across the country.

The Central District People’s Committee in Pyongyang, which has benefited from constructing a systematic parallel-type solar power plant, now works to expand the power production capacity.

It has also worked out a long-term plan to enhance the generation capacity and efficiency and pushes ahead with the preparations for implementing it.

After building a power generation capacity of hundreds of kW based on rice chaff, the Kangnam County Food Administration Station operates the generating facilities at full capacity to satisfy its needs for power while greatly contributing to the power production of the country.

The North Phyongan Provincial Power Distribution Station built a solar and wind-driven power plant with a large capacity. It also made and installed equipment needed for the capacity expansion of the plant, thus fully satisfying the growing demand for electric power.

Meanwhile, the Anak County Farm Machine Station and several other units in South Hwanghae Province also operate biomass gasification power generators they made by themselves to produce electric power needed for production and business management.
