The Law of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on Childcare was adopted in February 2022.

As a subsidiary law of the Law of the DPRK on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children adopted in 1976, it stipulates the order related to the production and supply of children’s nutritious foods and the provision of conditions for upbringing children.

According to the law, the basic principle of childcare is that the state establishes a well-regulated system of producing and supplying children’s nutritious foods including dairy products and regularly supplies them to all the children.

At the time of the adoption of the childcare law, the country was in a very difficult economic situation due to the severe natural disasters that hit it in consecutive years, plus the protracted global public health crisis.

However, the Workers’ Party of Korea, at the Third Plenary Meeting of its Eighth Central Committee in June 2021, discussed the issue of improving and strengthening its policy of childcare as a major agenda item.

At the plenary meeting the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that it is the most important policy and supreme cherished desire of the Party and state to provide more improved conditions for bringing up children even by investing a huge sum of money, noting that it has to be the way of advance and development of the Korean revolution to show more sincerity for children even if the condition becomes worse and to take dynamic steps forward towards the future of communism with the might of that love. All the officials should pay particular attention to providing good foods to the children of nurseries and kindergartens with their real parents’ affection and get their loyalty to the Party and revolution, country and people verified by making a tangible contribution to implementing the Party’s childcare policy, he added.

Soon after the plenary meeting, tasty and nutritious dairy products have been supplied to children at nurseries and kindergartens across the country.

Provinces, cities and counties throughout the country have intensified the work to increase milk production and furnish themselves with equipment for making dairy products, and established a well-knit system and order for supplying dairy products to all children at nurseries and kindergartens every day.

In addition, nurseries and kindergartens have been remodelled in different parts of the country and practical measures taken one after another to contribute to promoting the health and growth of children.

Thanks to the noble outlook on the future of the WPK which regards it as its greatest happiness to go to great lengths to promote the welfare of the rising generations even if it costs a huge sum of money, the children of the DPRK are growing healthily.
