On June 23 1947, a send-off sports meeting was held in honourof a delegation to the world youth festival at the then Pyongyang publicplayground (today’s Kim Il SungStadium).
At the meeting, President Kim Il Sung made a historic speech“Korea of the Future Belongs to the Youth”.
He congratulated the young delegateswho were to participate in the world youth festival and all the Korean youthwho were sending their excellent representatives to the international stage andput forward some tasks to be tackled by the young people for the building of anew prosperous country.
The youth should constantly traintheir body and mind so as to become valiant and courageous fighters with astrong physique and ardent patriotism, he said, adding that only when theyouth, the pillar of the nation, were sound in mind and body, would the countrybe strong and become a full-fledged independent state that no one could dare toneglect.
Saying that the victory belonged to the youth who fought for the truthand the people, he ardently called upon them to fight courageously, overcomingall obstacles, for the victory of the country and the people, for genuinefreedom and happy future of the entire Korean youth.
The young people at the meeting madeup their mind to fight stoutly for the prosperity and honour of the fatherlandrallying firmly behind the President, the great sun of the Korean nation.
