For 75 years since its foundation, our Republic has been treasured in the hearts of the people as people-centered socialism of own style enjoying a glorious name. It is precious fruition of the devotion of President Kim Il Sung to the country and people.

The President founded our Republic and dedicated his whole life to its strengthening and development.

In the past, our country had been reduced to a colonial and dependent country with no honor which accepted it as its fate to live as a small and weak nation.

It could be saved from such miserable fate and was turned into a happy home for all those living on this land as it held in high esteem the great President Kim Il Sung , founder of socialist Korea.

All the policies exercised by the President, who regarded people as heaven, became the ones for the people, which had been desired by them.

Among the countless stories about his love for the people is the one about his devotion to the people in a remote mountain village.

About half a century ago on September 18, 1976, President Kim Il Sung visited Sangso-ri in Anju County as it then was.

The place was literally no better than a mountainous district that was known to be inhospitable to humans in the old days.

The whole land of the country had been covered with a ramified network of irrigation channels and farming was thus long rid of its worries for water.

But the land of Sangso-ri had such an unfavourable terrain that pumping up water from the nearby Lake Yonphung was considered too formidable a task, not to mention the high unprofitability.

However, the President, before the effectiveness of investment, sought to make the farmers of Sangso-ri better off and happy like the farmers in the lowlands. With a view to making the local farming immune to droughts, he made a decision to pump water up to the farmlands up in the mountains.

He chose the site on which to build the pumping station to suit the topographical conditions and pointed out the course for the waterways.

He even gave earnest instructions to finish the project before the next farming season without fail.

The officials did not dare to establish an irrigation system because of the colossal amount of equipment and materials needed to pipe water into Sangso-ri. However, on this day, President Kim Il Sung made a meaningful remark to the effect that they must pipe water into Sangso-ri, though it is tantamount to employing a steam-hammer to crack a nut.

He also saw to it that the state provides equipment and materials necessary for the project and that the county helps the construction.

Meanwhile, he frequently dispatched the officials to learn about the progress of the construction.

The construction was a very difficult task but it was completed before the sowing season under the meticulous care of President Kim Il Sung .

And thanks to the life-giving water, they could reap a rich harvest in that year too, despite the severe drought caused by the cold front.

Now, it has been transformed into a happy paradise under the tender care.

Today, Sangso-ri locals are still handing down the teachings of President Kim Il Sung through generations and are singing about his love and benevolence bestowed on them.
