The great leader KimJong Il stopped his car in front of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palaceat two o’clock on the morning of one May day in Juche 78(1989).
Turning down the carwindow, the leader, with a bright smile, enjoyed the morning view of thepalace, telling an official at his side that it was the best palace in theworld and the building was the best in size and theme.
When the official askedhim if even a building had a theme, the leader said that when designers weremaking the mock-up of the palace, they named the model “Embrace” as he hadintended in the sense that the palace was the embrace of President Kim IlSung taking care of children. What a good theme it was that the palace wasthe embrace of the President taking care of children, the leader exclaimed, andsaid that the good theme gave birth to the gently curved building looking as ifit embraced children.
Then the official said that he came to knowfor the first time that a monumental building needs a theme, and the leaderwisely noted that in construction, too, only an intelligible and unique themecan give birth to a fine monumental structure.
